Very interesting 13 pages of information on the "Absolute Bill of Sale for the Negro Jim." The sale of negro Jim seemed to be $382.These documents detail the final judgement, as well as, details of the first judgement, subpoena, witness information, as well as, court costs associated with this case. The suit is between James L Horne and L. F. Puckett. Horne was a doctor as he was listed in the 1850 census as a physician. In the 1860 census he is a planter (plantation owner?) His real estate was valued at $29,000 and his personal value was listed as $34,000. This is an interesting look into the Pre-Civil Was South legal system.
