Interesting mounted photograph of various townspeople in Laytonville, California, located in Mendocino County 23 miles north of Willits. The identification comes from the small sign for WC Stoughton as Notary Public, an office he was holding in 1898-99. Eleven people are shown and identified on the reverse in pencil, but the writing is very difficult to read (we could make out Big Bill and Your Royal Highness). You can also see signs for The Peoples Cash Store, Star Tobacco, and Henry Hill Tailor in SF. The two people on the right look like rough characters! 4.5 x 7.5" on 7 x 10" mount. Staining, water damage. Rare California locale!
