Leather Straps for Trunk (2) with a Piece of Wood found on the SS Central America. Strap one measures approximately 5.75 x 1,25 inches. This strap has an arrow shaped end to it. The stitch holes are clearly visible on both sides of the strap. The second strap measures approximately 5 x 1.5 inches with an arrow shaped end to it. The stitch holes are clearly visible on both sides. A small piece that looks like wood with a rivet measures approximately 1.75 x 1.50 inches. Another small piece that looks like it could be leather measures approximately 1 x 1 inch. The last piece that looks like it could be made of wood, is in two pieces and measures approximately 4 x 1.5 inches and has two holes that would attach to the trunk. Everything is highly degraded. These are pieces of valises used during the gold rush to carry gold coins and gold dust. These pieces were found in coin piles on the ocean floor.
