Pass no. 310, issued to WH Hurlburt of the Canada Southern Railroad. Signed by the genl. supt. Ornate design on paper. The Leavenworth, Lawrence & Galveston Railroad was the first railroad in Kansas to operate south of the Kaw River. It barely finished construction in time to satisfy deadlines (Jan. 1, 1868) set forth by bonds. The engine "Ottawa" crossed a pontoon bridge over the Kansas River. By 1871, it had reached from Leavenworth to Coffeyville.
