Ever wonder what a Comstock legal battle between two mining companies looked like. This lot includes 15 pieces of paper concerning Sullivan vs. Holcomb. The legal battle took place in 1876 which was a prime time for Comstock mining. Includes, among others: 1) Original 1875 agreement between Sullivan and Holcomb. Sullivan was to be the foreman and sink a shaft in a 'reasonable time.' 2) April 29, 1876 suit brought about by Sullivan for $1780 or $7.00 a day as foreman. 3) Sullivan's lawyers claim Charles Kelsey kept him from working on this shaft - which was only 75'. Still Sullivan deserved the money. 4) Power of Attorney from Holcombe to Charles Kelsey. 5) A letter from Holcombe to Kelsey with his thoughts, 'Sullivan is a drinking man and not fit to be foreman.' 6) Holcombe's lawyers asked the case to be dismissed. It wasn't. 7) Holcombe's reply to Sullivan's accusations. Etc.!The final decision is not here, but one can get a good sense of history through this case. TEtc.
