Cast iron, wall-mounted match holder representing a coal scuttle bearing the words "Lehigh Valley Coal." Above the scuttle (that's a coal bucket, by the way) it reads "John M. Reddington 99 West Main St. Telephone 390." It is a flat black/brown as you might expect for a piece of cast iron, and approx 4.5 inches wide x 6.25 inches tall. It is in good condition with no damage and has a hole at the top for mounting. We found an ad for Mr. Reddington's coal company in a 1903 edition of the Catholic Journal offering the "Cleanest, Brightest, Best" to the community. The Lehigh Valley has produced relatively clean-burning anthracite coal since the 19th century. The major cities of Lehigh Valley are Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, Pennsylvania.
