Dated April 16th, 1882, Sunday morning, "Dear Sister". The author describes his train trip from Oakland to Los Angeles and onto Phoenix via stage. He describes Phoenix as a "queer old town." He notes other passengers included the "Secretary of the Territory," and the "Sheriff" who were going to Prescott. The Sheriff he mentions could be U.S. Marshall for Arizona Territory, Crawley Dake.
