Four page typed letter detailing a trip to Lake Tahoe, Truckee, and the surrounding Sierra Nevada (Donner, Sierra City, Downieville, Nevada City). Describes the difficulty in driving an automobile on the primitive, steep road system, including an encounter with a stagecoach: "I have described this one event as a sample of what might be termed the leading objection to touring in this part of the Sierras." Hague's language and descriptions are at times romantic. He was clearly awed by the scenery. "The stillness of the solitude was broken by the steady roar of the Winton engines." He concludes, "We have decided that California is the country to tour in." Pencil notation on back indicates the trip was 1911. Also comes with a Forest Service card that details fire prevention steps and has a map of the Tahoe area. Please also see our Hague archive being offered.
