A letter from Bayard Taylor to friend Tickner (no other name given), written on May 10th, 1860. Taylor was a famous poet and travel writer of his time; his 1850 collection of travel essays on his experience in California and Mexico, "El Dorado; or, Adventures in the Path of Empire" sold tens of thousands of copies in the U.S. and Great Britain within weeks of release. This collection is credited with introducing numerous U.S. and British citizens to the Gold Rush. He went on to have a notable political career, serving as U.S. Ambassador to Russia and Prussia.
This letter concerns the receipt of a check by Taylor as well as an apparent publishing arrangement he was attempting to make: "I think some arrangement can be made by which the Poems can be attached to the Travels and wed with them." No philatelic cover/envelope included. Good condition with some light creasing.
