Lillie James (1885-1948) made this fabulous Washoe basket woven of willow, redbud, and bracken fern root over a three-rod foundation. The design features a series of bird, crossed logs (Swastika) and diamond shapes circumscribing the body. 10" diameter, 6" high. Lillie was the daughter of Lucy Frank (basketmaker) and Charley Frank; sister of Lena Dick (basketmaker), Jessie Frank Wade (basketmaker), Yaddie Frank; wife of Willie James; mother of Carl James, and Velma McBride. Lillie and her sister Lena often wove side-by-side. Excellent condition.
