Everton J. Conger helped capture John Wilkes Booth: helped set fire to the barn Booth was hiding in, helped drag his body from the barn after Booth had been shot. Conger removed Booth's personal effects, including a diary. Conger was given $15,000 as a reward for the successful operation. Here are three documents pertaining to Conger: 1) Nov. 2nd, 1862 Parole of Honor: light blue paper (8 x 5 inches) 2) Index of Federal Prisoners of War captured at various times & places: His parole from prisoner of war, May 8, 1863 ; 9 x 8 inches; upper left corner torn. 3) Feb. 8, 1865 Special Order No. 42 mustering out the 2nd Lieutenant.
