Frederick Stone (1820-1899) was a U. S. Congressman from Maryland, serving from 1867-1871. During the Abraham Lincoln assassination trial in May and June 1865, Stone and Thomas Ewing, Jr. were defense counsels for Dr. Samuel Mudd. They are generally credited with helping Dr. Mudd avoid the death penalty. Ink signature as congressman on 4 x 1 1/4 inch paper. Light soiling, very good condition.
