Daniel Chester French (1850-1931) American sculptor, made the statue of Abraham Lincoln for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D. C. Two page letter (5 1/2 x 7 inches) to Miss Kimball: "I feel that my poor autograph is a quite inadequate return for the very interesting and very complimentary letter with which you have honored me..." Chester refers to his first important work, his statue of "The Minute Man" completed for the centennial of the Battle of Concord. Minor traces of previous mounting, entirely legible.
