A scarce pair of autographs signed on what would have been President Abraham Lincoln's 74th birthday by President Chester A. Arthur on one side and Lincoln's son, Robert Todd Lincoln, on the other. The plain white piece of paper, 6.5" x 3.5", is signed "Chester A. Arthur February 12, 1883." on one side, and "Robert T. Lincoln" on the verso. Very lightly soiled, otherwise fine. Comes with a 5.5" x 8" black and white photo of President Arthur. Robert Todd Lincoln (1843 - 1926) was the eldest son of President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, and the only one of their four children to outlive his parents. Robert Lincoln was a business lawyer and company president, and served as both United States Secretary of War (1881ñ1885) and the U.S. ambassador to Great Britain (1889ñ1893). President Arthur served as the 21st president of the United States from 1881 to 1885. He was a N.Y. lawyer and briefly served as the 20th vice president under President James A. Garfield, but assumed the presidency after Garfield's assassination in 1881. [] [] [] [] []
