Samuel B. Arnold (1834-1906) was a conspirator with John Wilkes Booth, David Herold, Lewis Powell, Michael O'Laughlen and John Surratt. Sentenced to life in prison, he was imprisoned with Samuel Mudd in the Dry Tortugas and pardoned four years later. This hand written four page letter (5 x 6 inch paper) dated Apr. 3, 1905 to A. E. Fostell, refers to his sickened condition and a manuscript he was going to publish. He denies knowing John Surratt's whereabouts "he is a perfect stranger." Excellent penmanship, very good condition.
