The man who shot John Wilkes Booth! Sergeant Boston Corbett autograph and carte de visite. CDV (4 x 2 1/2 inches) Standing in uniform. Minor edge wear with light soiling. Published by Robinson & Locke, Boston. Also large signature on an autograph album page (5 x 7 1/2 inches): "Boston Corbett - Sergt. Company L, 16th New York Cavalry." Commanded by Lieutenant Doherty the 16th surrounded the barn where Booth and Herold were holed up. After the barn had been set on fire, Corbett shot Booth through the barn door in the neck; Booth died the next day. Corbett moved to Kansas and had a job in the State Capitol until one day he went berserk and was put in the state asylum. He later escaped and all trace of him was lost. A scarce signature of Lincoln's avenger.
