Fessenden, Lincoln's Treasury Secretary, portrait (8 x 11 inches) from a portrait by Chappel and a handwritten one and a half page (5 x 8 inches) letter dated October 25, 1862 to the Secretary of War recommending an Army appointment. He enclosed the application of Norman B. Reed of Portland, Maine to be appointed 2nd Lieut. in the Army. Very good condition, no tears or stains.
