The Battle of Little Big Horn of June 25, 1876 is depicted in these eight ledger drawings by Lakota artist Merle Locke. They show the village at peace and then showing the warriors riding out meet the soldiers, battling with and then finally defeating them. These are all colorfully done and would make a great panel display. They each measure 12"x 18" and are suitable for framing.
Many Plains Native communities started chronicling event and progresses to warriors riding out to meet the US Cavalry s pictorially on materials like rocks and buffalo hides. Beginning in the mid-19th century, they used pages of ledger books obtained from settlers. A brightly colored depiction. Please see photos for more details
