The actual author was Alonzo Delano, a banker from Nevada City and Grass Valley. The first act takes place in Sacramento in 1850. Scenes 4-7 are set near Stringtown on the Feather River. Act 2 takes place in the mountians above Feather River. Delanzo was quoted as saying that the plot and many of the scenes are based in fact from his experiences after crossing the plains and arriving in California in 1849. This 160 year old booklet from the play "Live Woman in the Mines" is actually in very good condtion. Front cover issues (see photo) and foxing on some pages are all the mar this copy.
