Lot includes a group of four framed prints displaying the works of Lon Megargee, a cowboy turned painter from Arizona (1883-1960). Each 34" x 21.5" print of his painting with textured print (38" x 24.75" including frames), is a colorful trip back into the Arizona Old West. The collection includes advertising designs he did for the A-1 Brewing Company in 1948-1951: "Cowboys Dream," "The Quartet," "Black Bart," and "The Dude Lady."
The frames are sturdy wooden, stained and decorated with sisal rope (3) (one different with rope carved decoration), and have a little wear around the edges. One print, "The Quartet," is on wood and three others on cardboard.
Born in Philadelphia, Penn., Megargee studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Los Angeles School of Art and Design. He was raised on his uncle's dude ranch and later was a cowboy in Wickenburg, Ariz. One of his cousins, Edwin Megargee, was a painter. His paintings are on display at the Arizona State Capitol, and Grand Central Art Galleries in New York City. He was called "Arizona's first artist," by True West Magazine. Arizona
