$1,000 bond No. 265, issued in 1892, stamp cancelled. Signed by president Moses Sherman (namesake of Sherman Oaks, California) and secretary McDonald. Attractive design with brown border, black print, and three vignettes: street car (top right), machinery (top left) and train station building (bottom center). Printed by HS Crocker Company. 17.5 x 11" Thirty coupons attached. Light wear. Street car railroad founded in 1890 by Sherman after receiving a 50-year franchise from the city. The company ran 47 miles of track starting from around from Arcade Depot in downtown Los Angeles. Power for the street cars was supplied by two Thompson-Corliss type oil steam engines made by Golden State Miners’ Iron Works in San Francisco. In 1899, the Los Angeles Consolidated Electric Railway became part of the Los Angeles Pacific Railroad, as steam trains and other rail lines were added to the system.
