Rent collection records for unknown landlord in Los Angeles, California. This is a 1,000-page "Japanese Letter Copying Book" in which the billing and payment records for several tenants are recorded, month-by-month, from 1901 to 1902. Records begin on page 1 and end on 130. The remaining pages are blank. Names of the tenants repeat each month including F.W. Burnett & Co., Watt Tyler, Mrs. A.C. Severance, and S.A. Lanon, among others. Each page is a very thin, onion skin paper, sequentially numbered in the upper-right corner of the right-side page. The inside cover includes instructions for making the copies, which includes coating the thin paper with a fluid and laying over the original document. Blotting paper was placed on and behind those pages, then the whole book was squeezed tightly in a press. This "spirit duplication" method produced legible copies from handwritten and typewritten documents. Binding is still intact but loose, and the spine cover is missing. All pages appear to be present.
