A 4 1/4 x 7" photo from famed Louis Monaco. Louis immigrated from Switzerland to California, aged 17, in 1859, moved to Virgina City in the late 1860s where he opened his first photography studio on C Street. He moved to the boomtown of Eureka in 1871 and was joined by his younger brother JB in 1875. When Eureka went bust, they moved to San Francisco and opened a studio across from the Palace Hotel. Louis died in 1887 but JB worked until 1937 and produced iconic photos of the 1906 earthquake and became known as the "Dean of North Beach photographers." This photo is of 13 men, described as "group at Cortez Miller" with 4 names.
