This stock was incorporated in 1860 when the area was still part of the Utah Territory. The cert was issued in 1862 to John G. Kittle (president California Powder Works) for 25 shares. # 269. Signed by J. S. Paxon (S. F. County Treasurer) and H. P. Wakelee (San Francisco Chemist). Although the location is not mentioned on the cert, a July 5, 1864 Gold Hill News confirms this company with secretary Joseph S. Paxson was in the Gold Hill district. Not only that, it confirms that N. G. Kittle was delinquent on paying assessments for this company. The accompanying Abstract of Title is a historical gem. It is a detail of the transactions of ownership for the mine done in 1871 for Mackay and Fair when they purchased the property. It is a great insight into the mine in 1860. Although pages are missing there is, for example, information on California Governor John Biglerís (Lake Bigler/Lake Tahoe) part in the company. Historical notes on Wakelee and the Wakelee Pan process and 3 pages of news on the Lucerne from 10 different sources. Also 3 pages of notes on the 1860's Abstract of Title.
