Seems to be an 1872 abstract authorized by John Mackey and James Fair in 1872 when they formed the Silver Hill Mining Company. The Lucerne Mine formed part of the new Silver Hill Mine. The abstracts go back to 1860 when Nevada was part of Utah Territory. All claims listed are arranged alphabetically and list both "Grantor" and "Grantee." Some of the names of the original and early owners are prominent men of mining: John Bigler 3rd Governor of California, William Hickok owner of the Pioneer Quartz Mill, PC Van Horn 1859 mine locator and Justice of the Peace, etc. This book probably belonged to the Donovan family (historic Donovan Mill in Gold Hill) as they were the last caretakers and owners. 145 pages. First half contains claims bought and sold, leased, etc. About half of the pages have been cut out, so the picture is not complete, but there is still a lot of VERY EARLY Nevada. There are anomalies within, a guest list for an "Electrical Workers Ball" dated May 8, 1914, poems and four 1914 receipts of sale. The book measures 13.75" x 8.5". The covers are worn, but pages within are excellent. Rare and historical!
