This is a great set of color Pioneer postcards (pre split-back) produced between 1900 and 1905. Many of the cards were postally used and mailed between 1905-07. These are great views of the stunning home and ranch that Baldwin owned. Elias Jackson "Lucky" Baldwin (April 3, 1828 ñ March 1, 1909) was "one of the greatest pioneers" of California business, an investor, and real estate speculator during the second half of the 19th century. He earned the nickname "Lucky" Baldwin due to his extraordinary good fortune in a number of business deals. He built the luxury Baldwin Hotel and Theatre in San Francisco and bought vast tracts of land in Southern California, where a number of places and neighborhoods are named after him. Baldwin made money in the Comstock boom and bought the Tallac House near Lake Tahoe. Baldwin subdivided some of his vast property holdings in Southern California into Arcadia and Monrovia. A portion of his La Cienega Rancho became the city of Baldwin Hills. The community of Sierra Madre is now located on land he once owned. This is a wonderful group and in nice condition.
