3 27 for 10 shares to Frank Cooper. Signed by Dayley, James C and president James A Owen. Dateline San Francisco 1864. Incorporated July 23, 1863. Not cancelled. Small 5c and 20c revenue stamps. Waters Brothers printer. Dog ear upper right. 150 years old and shows that age a little, but overall quite nice. Mine not listed in Dustman. Frank Cooper was one of the original Commissioners charged with designating the election precincts in newly-formed Alpine Co. (1864 "Alpine County Bill"). Thomas J Owens was secretary to other local mining companies. Not all of his companies turned out to be profitable as he was listed as a delinquent shareholder in the IXL G&SM Co. in 1868 (1868 Jan 25 Mining & Scientific Press). He did acquire a half-lot adjoining Betchmann's stables Dec 2, 1863 from "P.A. Owens" and then conveyed it to Mary Frances Owens (N ½ of Lot 4, Block 3)(per Book B, page 16 of Deeds, Alpine County ). James C. Dayley is listed in the San Francisco 1865 directory (p. 145) as a mining secretary at 338 Montgomery and residing in Oakland. [Thank you to Karen Dustman, local historian and author of the book "Silver Mountain City" (Clairitage Press) for background information on the mine and signatures.] Ken Prag Collection
