Cover engraving from the February 28, 1863 issue of Harper's Weekly Journal of Civilization with a chest-high portrait of Major-General Joseph Hooker (November 13, 1814 – October 31, 1879) of the Army of the Potomac. Caption says the engraving is from a photograph by Matthew Brady. Hooker is notably known for his defeat by Confederate General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Chancellorsville in April/May of 1863 (after this article was published). Gorgeous 19-1/2 x 23-1/2 inch ornate glazed frame with an ivory-colored matte board with a 10-1/2 x 14-1/2-inch opening to reveal the engraving.
