Malachite is a bright green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral which occurs in many crystal habits and forms. This fantastic specimen features long (7 cm), slender, stalactiform masses of medium green malachite. Malachite results from the weathering (oxidation) of copper ores. Open pit mining began at the Mashanba West Mine in 1978. This specimen was formerly in the private mineral collection of Uli and Anka Bahmann of Johannesburg, South Africa.
