Rare. No. 235, issued for 500 shares to William Whithall in 1881 in Philadelphia. Signed by president Thomas Brown and secretary Michael Nisbet. Not cancelled. Gorgeous certificate with black border and print, large detailed mining vignettes along the bottom as well as allegorical vignettes above. Folds, lower right corner is missing, perforation in secretary signature. This is a common name for a Colorado mine. Not listed in Corbett or Fossett. C&L lists over a dozen Mammoth mines in Colorado. The best match we can find for this time frame is for a company of the same name operating in Clear Creek County. They own the Bush Lode and Combs Lode on Sherman Mountain in the Griffith Mining District. [The Colorado Miner (Weekly), Volume XV, Number 33, December 31, 1881] This company actually has mentions back to the later 1860s, which coincides with Pennsylvania newspaper mentions in 1870 that list Michael Nisbet as secretary.
