CDS (circular date stamp) with a manuscript day and manuscript ‘x’ cancel. Cancelled Jun 14, 1864. Small corner tear top right otherwise very fine. Listed as a rarity 9 from Gamett and Nelson. That equates to less than 5 known. Cancelled in 1864 making this a territorial cover. Addressed to Comstock Lawyer A. C. Ellis of Carson City. Steven Kinsey was post master at this time and most likely cancelled the cover. Kinsey set up the Trading Post at Genoa in 1851. Includes excerpts from an early pioneer diary about Mammoth Ledge '...passing west to...Mammoth Ledge Post Office & Toll Gate in the Mammoth Ledge District."
