"Mines at Manhattan, Nevada" printed at top center. No 676, issued for 500 shares to secretary Baxter in 1909 in Tonopah. Also signed by the president. Green border, eagle vignette. Heavy folds, toning. In 1863 in Austin, Nevada, Charles Breyfogle heard three men discussing the legendary lost Gunsight mine of Death Valley. He decided to follow them when they left, and soon they camped near Ash Meadows. There the party was attacked by Indians, but Breyfogle escaped. He wandered in the desert for several days, until he finally found gold in a quartz deposit. He gathered several samples, vying to return one day. Finally, a Mormon wagon train rescued him. Later settling in Austin, Breyfogle organized many search parties for the next 26 years, but he never again found his lost outcropping. People in Austin discussed several possible for the location, ranging all over southern Nevada and Death Valley. This company used Breyfogle's fame to promote their mine at Manhattan
