Spectacular hand colored map of the Americas as a central theme, with illustrations of the native peoples at lower lest as part of the "Legend" area. Written entirely in Latin, the map was made by August Gottlieb Boehemius as shown within the inscription, and published by Homann. Later versions of this map, still dated 1746, show alterations/corrections added by Homann's work force, and cited within the "legend" area, which is not present here. North America is cut off at a place near where the San Francisco bay should be. A graphic representation of a mountain chain inside the "California" region (shown here as the entire stretch from the southern end of Baja California- north) may be the southern portion of the Sierra Nevada. Of particular interest to scholars and enthusiasts is the unique placement of the word"Quivera" at a site which roughly corresponds to where the Comstock is today. This interesting fantasy of placement of the mythical city of gold right where the Comstock would later be is an astounding coincidence! Other features inside the North American area are pure guess work, such as the routes of the Rio del Norte and the Colorado River. On the NA east coast, Maryland and Long Island are clearly marked.
