Extremely rare. $1,000 bond certificate issued in 1875 at San Francisco. Signed by S. Heydenfeldt as president and (?) Leavitt as secretary. Top vignette of a lumbering scene and cowboys and Native Americans at the bottom. Solomon Heydenfeldt (c. 1816 - September 15, 1890) was an American attorney who was an Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court from 1852 to 1857. He was the second Jewish justice of the court. This mining company was one of the companies formed to operate the Mariposa Estate, originally the Mariposa Land Grant, owned by John C. Fremont. The Josephine, Pine Tree, Princeton and numerous other mines comprised the estate. The Mariposa Land & Mining Co. was organized in 1871 to relieve debts and the company was again reorganized in the 1880s under the name Mariposa Mining and Commercial Co.
