Lot of 2. Both with rare imprinted revenue B16a. Key autograph pair of two (Mackay & Fair) of the four "Bonanza Kings." The Mariposa Mill was located at the head of Sevenmile Canyon, south of the Sierra Nevada Mine, and north of Virginia City. Kelley reports on it in 1862. By 1867, the Bank of California/William Sharon ring owned it and it was called the California Mill. In 1871-72, it was again known as the Mariposa Mill and was processing ore from the Hale & Norcross. [Ref: Ansari] 1) Check no. 263, issued in 1870 to William Tooney. Signed by millionaire John Mackay. 2) Check no. 25, issued to Mark Strouse (VC grocer) in 1870. Signed by millionaire and US Senator James G. Fair. Nice pair in good condition.
