Martin Place is a town in Australia, and thus a common street name in the USA. I did find one person with that name in 1911-12 in Kansas. There are only two saloon listings in the early years, both in the 1912 Polk for G. Bardoni and J. Lusetti. Bardoni ran a saloon in Stockton with partner Annie Gallo, but got run out of town in August, 1911 for receiving stolen goods. Obviously, he went to the tiny mining community of Lane City for a saloon, but the name of the saloon was never mentioned, nor is Bardoni found anywhere in the USA after 1912. Lusetti came to Lane City in 1906. He made the news in October that year when someone stole his chickens. He was in East Ely in 1920. Were either of these two Italians from Australia? More research is needed. Lane City Is in Robinson Canyon just west of Ely, where the highway goes right next to the old town today. The first mining camp there was Mineral City in the late 1800s. Pop in 1990: 7. By 1917, there was only one retail liquor dealer (Saloon) left in Lane: Ed Thayer.
