Lot of 2 different. Both issued to William Drinkwater Freeth. 1) No. D466, issued for one share in 1899. Signed by the president (Bauernschmidt) and secretary. Not cancelled. Black border and print, floral logo. Three pence revenue imprint. 2) No. E572, issued for one share in 1899. Same corp. signatures. Not cancelled. Same design except brown border and text. Three pence revenue imprint. In March 1899, investors organized the Maryland Brewing Company to purchase local breweries with the objective of forming a monopoly that could comer the market. Seventeen Baltimore firms joined the trust, including the Gunther and National breweries, leaving only a few breweries such as the Weissner Brewery on their own. The Gottlieb-Bauernschmidt-Straus Brewing Company took over the Maryland Brewing Company when it failed in 1901.
