Seed Jar by Hector Ortega; Mata Ortiz Pottery. Black swirl pot, 8.25" h x 6" diameter, small chips on rim. Hector Ortega learned to make pots with swirls and ollas with concave side from his brother-in-law, Chevo Ortiz. Hector Ortega learned to make pots with swirls and ollas with concave side from his brother-in-law, Chevo Ortiz. From Nicolas Ortiz he learned to sculpt animal figures. Since then Hector has become famous for his implementations of two concepts: pots with animals looking at each other across the rim and pots with swirls that rotate from top to bottom. He generally works with black or red clays and keeps any painted designs to a minimum. Date: c.2004 Location: zMexico HWAC # 52720
