Cancelled 19 shares of Matson Navigation Co, cert. # 56 dated Apr 6, 1909, issued to A. Fuller. Stock signed by William Matson who started company and was president. Assigned on back by Estate of Andrew Fuller. Raised company seal. Matson, Inc., founded in 1882 is a public shipping company. Company provides shipping services throughout the Pacific, specializing to and from the Hawaiian islands. Matson Navigation Company’s association with Hawaii began in 1882, when Captain William Matson sailed from San Francisco to Hilo, Hawaii, carrying 300 tons of food, on supplies and merchandise. That voyage launched a company that has been involved in such diversified interests as oil exploration, hotels and tourism and military. An interest in Hawaii as a tourist attraction lead Matson to start that service, starting in 1908. In 1910 the 146-passenger ship S.S. Wilhelmina was taking passengers to Hawaii. Captain Matson died in 1917 at 67 and at that time the Matson fleet had 14 of the largest and fastest ships in the Pacific for tourists and freight. Printed: The Union Lith Co., S.F.
