This lot consists of five separate files for smelter returns at McGill, Nevada. This very important group of files from the 1930's and '40s show how the large mine and smelter at McGill needed quartz as flux for the processes. In order to get that quartz flux, small miners submitted high-grade gold and silver ores and were paid accordingly. This system was in place for more than 40 years and formed of an important part of the overall American mining process because it allowed small miners to generate revenue on their high-grade or without having to build their own mill. This was very important to the economics of the mining industry as a whole. These files reflect that. And five specific deals. They may be all this important.
