Stunning original folio litho from McKenny & Hall's The History of Indian Tribes in America, dated 1838. This print is one of the original 120 litho folio plates in the work, which is unquestionably the most famous artistic work on American Indians, with complete folios selling for more than $150,000. The piece here is triple matted and framed, overall size 27.5 x 23", print size about 16.5 x 12.5". Excellent condition. The subject, a Chippeway Squaw and child in a cradle board is a masterful rendition of the native tribe from the Chippewa River region of northern Wisconsin, though originally the tribe occupied a massive area around the Great Lakes.
