Number 172 for 50 shares to Simon Bowman in 1881. Signed by secretary John Irvine ( of the company name) and president JW Heunter. Frank McMahon is the McMahon. Grantsville (town is misspelled on the certificate) is located a couple of miles south of Berlin, Nevada (Home of the Ichthyosaur State Park - Nevada's State Dinosaur). Gold was discovered here as early as 1863, but things didn’t really get going until the 1870s. The town reached its peak in the early 1880s, with a population of up to 800 people. At this time the Alexander and McMahon mines were producing. There were several small-scale revivals beginning in 1907. Cut close on let and one horizontal fold. All-in-all excellent condition.
