This framed, approximate 24 x 40" collection of seventeen large projectile points with a printed poster showing the points, sizes, and locations found. The framed poster, about 24 x 30", discusses 19 points. The actual framed points contain perhaps 15 of the original 19 found. This collection changed hands several times over the years, ending up in the Royels' Wigwam Collection some time ago. It was a highlight of the collection, attracting much attention from passersby. The points range in size from perhaps 2 inches to about 3 x 6". Some have the classic surface weathering on one side with a bright and shiny reverse side. Several of these points would be considered "Great Basin Large Stems" as shown in Cassinelli's book "Gathering Traces of the Great Basin Indians", 1996. Cassinelli claims that these large stem points are unique to the Great Basin, and are dated at 8500 to 11,000 years old, based upon associated artifact age dating. While the photos of the Cassinelli Collection at the Stewart Indian Museum shows several points similar to the large points here, we don't see a "class" or "name" applied to them. A number (seven) of the points here appear to be related to the wide stem pieces. A clear cut or notch is made in one side, that if made to continue deeper would amount to a "large stem." These are classic remnants of the Lake Lahontan related ancient peoples. This is a choice collection of some of the finest pieces in the Wigwam Collection.
