From 1975 to 1979, The Franklin Mint produced this spectacular set of fifty 925 Sterling Silver proof coins depicting events in the historic legacy of the American Indian from the perspectives of both the historical record and the Native Americans interpretations of those same events. The latter designs were created by a group of prominent Native American artists with many designs telling the story with ancient tribal symbols. The quality of presentation of this collection is nothing short of stunning from the moment the book is opened. Five encapsulated coins are secured in thick cardboard half-pages which open like doors from the center revealing the descriptive cards for each coin which give the traditional view and the Native American interpretations. It is an elegantly inventive way of presenting both the coins and the descriptions together. The coin pages and descriptions are bound in a sturdy case secured with snap closures and covered in a rust-red leatherette material. Very minor wear is evident on the exterior, and the interior is in pristine condition. The encapsulated coins retain their brilliant proof-like mirror finish, and a very few may have very slight purplish toning around the edges of the coins. This comes from the liquidation of Northwest Territorial Mint.
