5 articles of clothing recovered from the Easton trunk found at the S.S. Central America shipwreck. 1.) Pair of expensive men's pants. The watch pocket inside the left side is marked by stencil and ink of the maker: // Wyman & Co. / Makers, No ?5?/ Broadway / New York / USA //. John G. Wyman and his brother George E. Wyman operated a tailor's shop at 256 Broadway, according to Trow's 1857 Directory. Wyman did not advertise in the NY Call newspaper. Five-button fly with stubs present. Square-cornered flap pockets with buttons at square corner tips. Sturdy material appears dark green with metallic fibers. Waist in back has V notch with buckle tie. Front with four suspender attachment points and two in the rear. Inside leg lining at cuff has minor degradation. This is a "showy" piece. 2.) Leaf pattern vest. Two lower pockets, watch pocket on left outside. This vest has significant dirt and some degradation. The interesting thing here is that this is Easton's everyday vest. It has significant wear at the top collar and on the right inside lower collar (probably right-handed). Five cloth bottom closure all present, split back center, double strap reverse with buckle. Rounded lapel. Overall length 21". 3.) Ansel Easton dress shirt. This shirt is not quite as fancy as some others. Pleated front, skirt base, stud closure front, button at top and small buttons at sleeves (not present). Overall length 34", inside theme 23" (includes as unfolded cuffs); neck size about 14". The cuffs here are already folded, indicating possible recent use. Degradation in front along left pleat area and below right center mid seam, and front left tail. 4.) Men's cravat from Ansel Easton. Alternating thin and thick line pattern. 1.5" wide 35" long, brown appearing though much staining. Typical "unfinished" ends, 5.) One pair fully unfolded, and the other pair from recent use with top section folded over the foot section. Two distinctly different pair. One with a single line red thread surrounding the form fitting top with the second sock in this pair mismatched with two red lines. One of these two socks with a hole where middle toe wore a hole through the sock. The second pair is half unfolded, the other sock as just pulled off the foot from recent use. From the Easton trunk, probably Ansel Easton's socks. 9" cuff to heel, 8" heel to toe.
