A group of 4 stock certificates from the Merchants Union Express Company, all dated 1867. Each certificate is signed by secretary J.N. Knapp and president E.P. Ross, though the Ross signatures are extremely faded. A faint cancellation stamp is visible on one certificate. They have excellent vignettes of a horse-drawn cart. Very toned with damaged edges. The Merchants Union Express Co. endured profound losses due to competition with American Express throughout the 1860s before being bought out by American Express and renamed the American Merchants Express Company with William G. Fargo appointed as president.
