This Riker box has a collection of metal finds from the Fort Craig site in New Mexico. The fort was established in 1854 and occupied until 1885. Originally built to provide protection to settlers and occupied by the 3rd Infantry. The finds include an number of metal D-rings, loops, and leather hooks and buttons, a scabbard tip, twelve spent percussion caps from the percussion period of ordinance firearms. There is also a group of mother of pearl buttons that are quite petite and indicate that there were women and children among the soldiers for protection.
