A military letter from E.R. or E.B.? Atwood, who was stationed at Fort McKavett, Texas, c1877. Atwood writes in confidence to R. Taylor of Cleveland, Ohio, about a situation he's dealing with regarding a relationship he had with a woman, and also his unhappiness with his orders to remain in San Antonio and that if has to stay there he may ask for a leave of absence. "I should appreciate very highly a station where I could have social advantages - but if I have to live with Indians I have no idea of marrying a squaw." He also had problems getting to San Antonio. "I believe that my arm was broken in upsetting of a stage July 16 last while enroute to San Antonio. He adds that once his situation is settled, "should I not remain in San Antonio I think I may take a leave of absence & be in Washington about the time Congress is in session" ... He cites, "I was very shabbily treated." He apparently wanted a matter dropped and until that happens his life is "unsettled as it is possible." Includes a cover postmarked Ravenna, Ohio, with a stamp. [ San Antonio Texas 1877
