Mimbres "Bat" replica bowl, by Thornburg. 3" h x 7.25" diameter. Since 1987 Paul & Laurel Thornburg have been making museum quality replicas of prehistoric Southwestern ceramics. Their specialty is accurately made custom private orders of 1000 year old Mimbres bowl designs using wild clays and pigments with wood firings. For over 20 years the Thornburg's work has been shown at the museum shops of the Arizona State Museum, at the University of Arizona in Tucson, as well as at Western New Mexico University Museum in Silver City--this bowl is from WNMUM. Also included in this lot is a small white bear figurine (3" x 2") by Andrew Padilla is from the Laguna Pueblo and the Santa Clara Pueblo. He was inspired to learn the art of working with clay from his grandmother, Reycita Padilla. She taught him all the fundamentals to hand coil Santa Clara pottery. When he moved to the Laguna Pueblo, he began experimenting with white clay. His mother, Gladys Paquin taught him where to find the best clay.
