Group of five very large, appx 40" x 80" original black ink on linen maps. Most cover a very wide range from T18N to T25N (above Seattle), R3E to R7E (south of Renton). The maps were made by James f. Jones, Engineer and project Supt.for teh Oregon Improvement company. The key mine, subject of some maps, was the Coal Creek Mine. Others included the Franklin and Black Diamond mines and New Castle Field.. The Coal Creek material includes engineering drawings for custom ore cars. Varying scales, though the larger maps are generally 1"=1000ft. A couple are a bit ragged at top. The Oregon Improvement company was the brainchild of financiel Henry Villard, as part of his desire to "dominate economic developemnt of the Pacific Northwest", according to a summary of the company's holdings at the Univ. Of Washington Special Collections Library. The company ran from 1880-1896, developing coal mines and railroads.
